Trial and error

DANDENONG’S Drum Theatre is in its final stages of preparation to host the world premiere of Haneef: The Interrogation, this Friday night.
Drum Theatre manager and director of cultural facilities Paul Streefkerk said the production company had been preparing for the premiere since Monday.
The two-man play starring Adam McConvell and Simon King is based on the transcripts from the interrogation of Dr Mohamed Haneef, the Queensland based doctor who was arrested under anti-terrorism laws.
He was held in connection with the Glasgow Airport attack last year and was released without charge after 25 days’ detention.
“The play has been in production for three months and it’s great to see it develop from a small scale production,” Mr Streefkerk said.
He said the rehearsal programs for this week were very important.
“The preparation has being going really well considering it’s a brand new script with new actors, lighting and a new set.”
Mr Streefkerk praised the “very good” script by multi award winning playwright Graham Pitts.
“The play provides an opportunity for the audience to think about the issues, it’s not one sided,” he said.
“Good drama doesn’t preach, it stays balanced. This play is good drama.”
Mr Streefkerk said it was fantastic to be able to host the premiere at the Drum Theatre.
“I’m very happy and proud. It’s nice to know our system here is working well,” he said.
The play goes for just over an hour with the two leading men playing several roles each.
Haneef: The Interrogation is on at the Drum Theatre on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 February.
