Cafe’s diverse blend

RESIDENTS can celebrate International Women’s Day at Noble Park’s Café Salvo on Tuesday 11 March.
Guest speakers on the day will be Noble Park Ward councillor Pinar Yesil and refugee and fourth-year medical student Jasmina Kervic, who are both of diverse and exciting backgrounds.
Both will tell their stories to café goers as a symbol of the City of Greater Dandenong’s recognition of the contributions of the city’s women.
The City of Greater Dandenong’s youth support worker Vicky Petinarias said International Women’s Day celebrations would provide an opportunity for young men and women to hear from two inspirational speakers who were keen to share their experiences living in the Greater Dandenong community.
“Jasmina Kervic, a refugee and fourth-year medicine student at Melbourne University, and Cr Pinar Yesil from the City of Greater Dandenong were identified as two women with wonderful backgrounds that symbolise International Women’s Day,” Ms Petinarias said.
The free afternoon tea function will be held from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Cr Yesil said the event was a chance to share her background and the opportunities made available to her in Greater Dandenong.
“There are many avenues out there for young people to make a real go of success,” Cr Yesil said.
“I hope by sharing my experiences, it will give young people inspiration to take on new challenges.”
Mayor John Kelly said International Women’s Day was a significant event because of the city’s wonderful cultural diversity.
“I would encourage people to take the opportunity to support this event,” Cr Kelly said.
The celebration will also be used as a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
Café Salvo is located at 14-16 Buckley Street, Noble Park.
