RECONCILIATION Week will be celebrated in Greater Dandenong with cultural presentations at Springvale and Dandenong libraries.
Reconciliation Week is the ideal time to gain an insight into the culture and history of Australia’s indigenous community.
Greater Dandenong Council will present Wadawurrung Dreaming at Springvale and Dandenong libraries on 20 and 29 May.
The sessions will provide an open and interactive experience where people can learn more about place names, language, lifestyle and contemporary issues facing indigenous communities.
Visitors to the libraries will also be able to see traditional tools and artefacts including spears and boomerangs.
The City of Greater Dandenong’s indigenous community development officer Bryon Powell will conduct the talks.
Mr Powell is a local indigenous community member and Wadawurrung elder.
“We have about 500 indigenous people living in Greater Dandenong,” he said.
“Reconciliation Week is a wonderful opportunity to bring together people who are genuinely trying to improve the relationship between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.”
Wadawurrung Dreaming will be held on Wednesday 20 May at Springvale Library between 10am and11.30am.
Another session will be held at Dandenong Library on Thursday 29 May between 7pm and 8.30pm.
