Casting a wider net

I WOULD like to say how exciting it was to be able to ride in the Eastlink 10km fun ride on Sunday.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and the number of riders was a fantastic sight to see.
It was pleasing so many made it a family fun ride, with children of all ages involved.
The lack of marshalls along the10km route was the only problem we faced, as at times it was a truly dangerous ride due to the professional riders continually riding towards us and not keeping on their side of the barrier poles.
Alan Gordon,
Springvale North Ward councillor,
City Of Greater Dandenong.

I READ with interest the article (Star, 12 June) in relation to web casting of council meetings.
Prior to web casting the City of Greater Dandenong used to video the council meetings, which were able to then be borrowed from the library.
Web casting is much more informative and efficient because those interested can see exactly what a particular councillor or officer is saying at the time.
There might be a particular issue or a question that is asked at public question time.
The amount of people that attend a council meeting is not indicative of the level of interest in what a council does.
There are issues that come up or are on the agenda in which there is interest, but for many reasons, lack of public transport for instance, will preclude attendance.
I am pleased that the City of Greater Dandenong provides this service.
Roz Blades,
Keysborough Ward councillor,
City of Greater Dandenong.
