Elderly woman punched in the face

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A MAN has been charged with a litany of different offences after police say he broke into a Dandenong house, punched an elderly woman inside the home, and stole her car.
Police allege the man broke into through the back door of the Bassett Street property with a jemmy bar about 8.30am on Tuesday 11 August, before walking upstairs where he is said to have confronted the 69-year-old female occupant, punched her in the face and demanded cash.
When he wasn’t able to get cash the man is alleged to have taken the victim’s car keys and stolen her Toyota Camry from the garage.
A 31-year-old man with no fixed address was later charged in relation to the aggravated burglary after police found him in Doveton and arrested him following a foot chase.
The man is allegedly linked to a number of offences in Dandenong and Casey.
The man was charged with aggravated burglary, nine counts of burglary, eight counts of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, seven counts of theft from a motor vehicles, recklessly causing injury, two counts of going equipped to steal, handling stolen goods, evading police, criminal damage, assaulting police, resisting police and driving while disqualified.
The man has been remanded in custody to face Dandenong Magistrates’ Court next month.
