Festival of fairies to help author

GREATER Dandenong council will help a budding Keysborough author launch her career with a mermaid and fairy festival celebrating her book’s theme while raising much-needed funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The festival is the brainchild of Keysborough resident Avtar Kaur, 49, who was featured in Star last week after she announced she had written a fantasy novel titled The Moon Mermaids aimed at young children. The novel has caught the attention of literary agents in Sydney but Ms Kaur is determined to ensure the Keysborough community can share in her success.
Ms Kaur is now working with the council to plan ‘Mermasia Day’ in early October and requires the help of a few community volunteers who can assist Ms Kaur in organising rides, entertainment, theming and catering.
Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades told Star that Ms Kaur had a great novel and that Mermasia Day would make a fantastic community event while supporting a worthy cause. Cr Blades stressed that all money raised would go towards the Royal Children’s Hospital as part of Ms Kaur’s willingness to help young children.
Anyone interested in helping to organise Mermasia Day should contact Cr Blades on 0417 053 612, or email Ms Kaur at kashrians@optusnet.com.au.
