STUDENTS from Carwatha College have been learning about landscape gardening in a partnership project between the school and its local hardware store.
They were taking part in the Eco Friendly Challenge, part of the South East Local Learning and Employment Network Local Community Partnership’s (SELLEN LCP) Adopt a School Program. Fifteen students received help from two Bunnings team members each Thursday for an eight-week period.
The employees acted as mentors to the students who learned the finer points of landscape gardening.
Bunnings also provided materials for the project including plants, mulch and sleepers.
The project also involved the students visiting the Bunnings warehouse where they were taken on a tour of the premises. Students had the opportunity to check and order stock according to their budget and quote sheets.
The program concluded last week with a barbecue lunch and graduation.
Noble Park North Ward councillor Maria Sampey handed out certificates to the students.
