Ambo ‘danger’ hot spots

AMBULANCE Victoria has flagged 43 Greater Dandenong locations as danger spots for paramedics.
Dandenong alone has 23 addresses identified on a special patient information system because occupants are known to own weapons or have harmed paramedics in the past.
There are 11 in Noble Park, six in Springvale and three in Keysborough.
Ambulance Victoria’s acting emergency operations general manager Mick Stephenson said no paramedic was expected to enter a scene where violence was likely or suspected.
“The safety of paramedics is paramount and we do not tolerate any violence or aggression towards our staff,” he said.
“We are continually reviewing our systems to provide the safest possible work environment for paramedics.”
Mr Stephenson said paramedics worked with Victoria Police to increase their knowledge of potential danger spots.
This included identifying where individuals might be violent, have a mental health issue, use drugs or own a firearm.
“There were 9331 special patient information records in our system in October 2015,” Mr Stephenson said.
