THE Dandenong Town Hall clock will receive an early Christmas present this year, with maintenance works beginning this week.
Work has started on repairing the clock’s control mechanism, which has reached the end of its working life.
Cultural Facilities director Paul Streefkerk said the clock’s control mechanism dated back to 1934 and was handmade.
He said in recent times the clock had proved unreliable and resetting it had become a long and cumbersome process.
“Repair work has already been carried out on the clock’s control mechanism this year, but the time has now come for the mechanism to be replaced,” Mr Streefkerk said. “In the past resetting the clock has been a time consuming process. The new mechanism will ensure the clock can be reset more quickly and safely.”
Mr Streefkerk said that all going to plan the clock would be in full working order by Christmas.
