Vandals drove a car onto the Warner Reserve oval and set it alight on Thursday 30 June.
Police are appealing for information about the Springvale incident, which occurred about 12.50am.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Karen McIntyre said the culprits drove the silver Toyota Camry Altise through a metal fence and a further 100 metres into the soccer field before setting it alight using an accelerant.
She said the number plates on the car had been stolen from a Mulgrave address earlier that night.
The CFA attended and extinguished the fire, Det Sen Const McIntyre said, the car was extensively damaged.
