A NOBLE Park family is fed-up with “local idiots” after a hit-run crash left their Marsham Street property in a mangled mess.
Mr Helperstorfer said he heard tyres screeching down the street followed by a loud bang at 3.30am on Tuesday morning. He said he was shocked to look out the window and see a white car driving away, leaving track marks in his yard and the fence in bits and pieces. “It looked like a bomb had hit the place. There was wood and stumps everywhere,” he said. “The fence is a total write-off, and the driver was lucky because he missed a tree in our yard by half a metre.”
Mr. Helperstorfer said the impact of the car forced fence palings to hit his daughter’s car, causing about $2000 in damage.
His 24-year-old daughter Jessica said she was frightened when she woke up to the commotion.
“I was really scared,” she said. “I just heard a loud band and thought two cars had crashed in a neighbouring street, but then I looked outside and saw a white vehicle driving away from our yard.”
Ms Helperstorfer and her father were not surprised by the situation and said it was only minor compared to other incidents that had happened in their residential area.
“There have been a few accidents in the streets,” Ms Helperstorfer said. “There are always people speeding and drag-racing.”
“They are bloody idiots,” Mr Helperstorfer added. “People who drive that bad shouldn’t be on the roads.”
A Volvo badge, believed to be from the culprit’s vehicle, was found among the debris.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Springvale Constable Sergeant Cole Surjan at 8558 8600.
