ONE-YEAR-OLD Gryffin Orr’s first haircut will be significant, as it will help the fund-raising efforts of the Leukaemia Foundation.
Gryffin will be a week shy of his first birthday when he loses his locks for the World’s Greatest Shave at his birthday party on 7 March.
His parents Grayson and Carol said they wanted their children’s first haircut to have a special meaning.
“We did it last year with his brother Cadell on his first birthday,” Mr Orr said, “so we thought we should do it with Gryffin.”
Mr Orr said his family is fortunate not to be affected by leukaemia, but believed it was important to raise money for the foundation. They hoped to raise $150 to $200 this year.
Five years ago, Mr Orr braved the shaver for the world event.
“My hair was down to my waist and I shaved it all off,” he said.
Friends and family have thrown their support behind the Orr’s efforts, donating money, and even the shaver.
“My friend David Anderson shaved Cadell’s hair last year,” he said, “and he will do it again this year.”
