BURGLARIES in Greater Dandenong have reduced by 25 per cent following the introduction of a taskforce targeting the crimes.
Detective Acting Sergeant Dean Hayes said while the operation was still ongoing, it had been very successful so far. “Since the start of the operation in December we have charged 43 people with burglary and another 20 with drug-related and dishonesty offences,” he said. “It’s an ongoing operation and we have a number of people we still have to pick up.”
Police are investigating the theft of items valued at $10,000 from a Dandenong South distribution centre.
It is believed that between 3pm on 22 February and 5am the next morning thieves entered the Carter Way property and used a hydraulic cutter to cut locks on shipping containers at the site.
A white Ford courier, an oxyacetylene set with bottles, core electrical cable and copper wire were stolen from the factory.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Hayes on 9767 7581 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
