Thieves punched a Noble Park man and stole his mobile phone just metres away from his home.
Greater Dandenong CIU Senior Constable Riley Wesley said the 30-year-old was talking on his phone as he walked along Buckley Street about 10.30pm on Tuesday 21 February.
Two men, one African and one Caucasian in appearance, walked towards him from the railway station.
Sen Const Wesley said they struck the victim to the back of the head and he fell to the ground.
The attackers punched him two or three more times while he was on the ground, picked up his phone and walked away towards the train station.
The victim suffered minor injuries.
