SPRINGVALE student Kristian Clancy will dance at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in March.
But he remained tightlipped on his important role in the ceremony, having signed a nondisclosure agreement.
“Even if I did know I couldn’t tell you,” he said.
For the Springvale Secondary College Year 12 student and cocurricular captain it was a surprise that he was chosen, considering he has never really danced before.
But his enthusiasm and ‘cando’ attitude has given him the onceinalifetime opportunity.
“I was shocked, I was not expecting it,” he said.
“They just sent me a letter saying ‘you’ve got in’ and I said ‘okay I’ll do this’.”
Mr Clancy said rehearsals would be intense.
“I don’t have a clue yet (what role I will play) but I do know there are going to be minimum fourhour rehearsals.
“There are technical things to run through at the MCG, and dress things.
“I had my head measured for a hat,” he added. “It was just hilarious.”
But the brush with fame doesn’t end there.
Expect to see Kristian Clancy at this year’s televised Carols by Candlelight, on stage and singing with the Victorian State Singers choir.
Mr Clancy said the esteemed choir included renowned conductor Douglas Haywood.
Earlier this year he was an announcer at the Pan Pacific swimming competition at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
“I just had to announce who the winners were,” he said.
“I was in a box watching people swim.”
He also placed fourth in this year’s Clayton Idol, a local parody of Australian Idol.
But a life of performance is not necessarily Mr Clancy’s initial career goal.
“I would like to do something around event management,” he said.
“Ideally I want to be a youth worker, and I hope to study at RMIT University.
“Hopefully I can get into event management that way.”
Mr Clancy is modest about his achievements and describes himself as a quiet achiever.
His role as cocurricular captain has seen him help to organise a lot of extracurricular activities for school students, including the Springvale Secondary College Year 12 Formal.
