Knife-wielding would-be thieves attacked a man walking in central Dandenong in a failed robbery.
The Dandenong 51-year-old was on foot with a friend waiting for the pedestrian lights to change at Lonsdale and Foster streets about 10.15pm on Friday 24 March.
A group of men described as African in appearance approached and demanded money.
When the victim said he had none, one man produced a knife and slashed the victim’s clothing.
He punched the victim to the face, causing him to fall to the ground where he continued to punch and kick him.
Police said the victim’s friend did not get involved and nothing was stolen.
The attackers walked from the scene. The victim suffered lacerations to his forehead and a blood lip.
