Crime takes a hit

CRIME in the City of Greater Dandenong has taken a hit following a number of arrests by the burglary taskforce.
Detective Dean Hedge said that the unit, which targets burglaries on both residential and industrial areas had “cleaned up” in recent weeks and recovered stolen property.
On Friday a 31-year-old woman and her 12 and 14-year-old sons were arrested in Dandenong North in relation to a number of residential burglaries.
All three were charged with burglary and theft.
The woman was bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 21 July 2009 and the boys were bailed to appear at Dandenong Children’s Court on 3 July 2009. In a busy day for detectives, police were made aware of three burglaries that took place in Noble Park on Friday. A witness assisted police in what became a chasing game. “We were told that two women were selling stolen goods on Friday,” Det Hedge said. “So we chased them all over the place, until we picked them up on Friday night.”
He said that two women were arrested and charged with burglaries worth an estimated $70,000, one was remanded in custody and the other was bailed to face the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 21 July.
Head of the tasking unit Detective Acting Sergeant Dean Hayes said there had been an improvement in the clearance rate of burglary cases since the taskforce was introduced earlier this year. Anyone who notices children or adults acting suspiciously is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
