SOUTHERN Health has started serving halal meals for their Muslim patients across all of their hospitals.
The new range of halal meals are produced at the Kingston Centre Central Production in Cheltenham.
All halal meals are prepared according to set guidelines.
Southern Health’s director of Support Services Veronica Jamison said the move was approved by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.
“Southern Health is the only halal-accredited production facility in the public sector, and is producing a wide variety of meals for our patients,” Ms Jamison said.
“The decision to produce halal meals was prompted by the growing number of requests from our local catchment area and Southern Health’s commitment to providing better health across all communities.”
