MAXISUN claimed the City of Greater Dandenong Cup at Sandown Racecourse on Sunday, handing trainer Tony Vasil his first win in the prestigious event.
In the sixth running of the race Maxisun was backed heavily as a $3.10 favourite, and the four-year-old did not disappoint, winning by a length from Patrick McKenna’s Uncle Ivan. The win was Maxisun’s fifth in 10 starts since September, when the horse returned to the track after a two-year break following hock surgery.
Vasil’s win was the first of a duo for the day, as he won the final race of the day with True Tales, and had a second-placing in the ESP Plate with Circus Polka.
Luke Oliver also picked up a double, winning the Des Gleeson Handicap with Determination and the Hilton Manufacturing Cup with Scenic Scene.
