CHISHOLM Institute of TAFE is helping provide local industry with a range of services through its CNC Prototyping Centre.
Prototyping was once available only to large companies but through the TAFE it is now available to smaller engineering enterprises with service and reasonable cost.
The centre can be accessed by small and medium enterprises, which had limited access to research and development.
It is staffed by a qualified technician who works with businesses to provide the best possible product.
A range of equipment including CNC mills, CNC lathes, wirecut, co-ordinate measuring machines, as well as a 3D printer are available.
Dandenong South’s Southport Engineering, part of the Australian Rail Manufactures Group, has successfully used the centre.
It needed an aluminium profile to suit a new bus window frame design. Because it would have been expensive to have a die made to test whether the component worked, it approached Chisholm and the parts were made.
