STUDENTS from Minaret College had the opportunity to meet award-winning author and illustrator Gabrielle Wang last week.
The event was organised to further motivate children from Grades 3 to 6 to continue with their Premier’s Reading Challenge. The school was also presented with a collection of Ms Wang’s books, which she autographed, and all participants received bookmarks.
Ms Wang’s books reflect the multicultural nature of Australia. Her first novel, The Garden of Empress Cassia, won the Best Children’s Long Fiction in the 2002 Aurealis Awards.
Upper Primary head Faridah McMahon said Ms Wang talked about her books, shared her childhood and writing experiences and demonstrated the excellent illustrating skills.
“The experience to meet an author of a book that the children have read together in class was most enjoyable and inspiring,” Ms McMahon said.
