Car fire link suspected

AFTER a recent increase in car fires, Dandenong police are investigating if there is a link between them.
The investigation comes as another stolen vehicle destroyed by fire was found at Ross Reserve in Noble Park on Wednesday.
Police and fire crews were called to the reserve between 1.45am and 2.20am to find the 2002 yellow Holden Commodore. Police said the fire was deliberately lit.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Woman grabbed

POLICE are investigating an incident in Olinda Avenue, Springvale, when, early on Tuesday 16 June, a 21-year-old woman was grabbed from behind by a man as she walked from her car to her house.
The woman struggled from his grip, as a car drove past and he left the scene.
The male was described as wearing jeans and a black bomber jacket.

Bad guys

DETECTIVES are looking into an attempted credit card deception at the Good Guys store on the Princes Highway, Dandenong, last month.
They believe a man tried to use a fake credit card to buy a laptop on 29 May. He also produced a fake driver’s licence.
Staff became suspicious and questioned the man who then left the store, leaving the credit card and licence behind.

Fatal car crash

A DANDENONG North woman, 56, has died in a car crash on the Tullamarine Freeway.
About 8am last Friday her Kia Rio car and a Holden Commodore driven by a 30-year-old North Coburg woman collided. The North Coburg woman was not critically injured.
Police believe the Kia Rio may have slowed or stopped on the road moments before the collision.
One of the outbound lanes on the Tullamarine Freeway was closed as police investigated the incident.

Hot topping

DOMINO’S Pizza caused a stir in the main streets of Dandenong last week, for the wrong reasons.
CFA crews from Dandenong and Hallam were called to the restaurant at 10am on Thursday after a staff member reported a fire.
It took about half an hour to put out the fire and firefighters stayed on the scene to clean up.

Rates to rise

CITY of Greater Dandenong councillors adopted the 2009/10 budget at last week’s council meeting.
It includes a 5 per cent rate rise, which will result in an average annual increase per household of $30.35.
