Call to turn out

NOBLE Park CFA is calling for more volunteers as the summer approaches.
The brigade is made up of 18 volunteers, and 19 non-operational members
Treasurer and fundraiser coordinator Sharon Baptist said the Noble Park brigade has serviced the local community for more than 80 years.
“Some of our volunteers are second and third generation volunteers and we have two sets of brothers currently in the brigade as well,” she said.
Ms Baptist said the brigade is looking for people who are willing to learn the skills required to become a volunteer fire-fighter and help the existing volunteers serve the community.
Currently the brigade, led by Captain Sean Cowen, attends between 15 to 20 calls a week, including house fires, car accidents and other incidents.
The brigade also attended the Black Saturday fires this year and the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983.
Ms Baptist said she expected a dramatic increase in the number of incidents the brigade attends once the official fire danger period begins.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer fire-fighter or anyone who feels they can lend a helping hand in some way is asked to contact the brigade.
Junior recruits, aged between 11 and 16, are also invited to join the brigade.
