A stranger placed his hand over a woman’s mouth as she crossed a Springvale street.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Antonio Meleisea said the incident happened on Springvale Road about 9.20am on Monday 11 June.
The Springvale woman was on her way to work when the man approached at a pedestrian crossing.
He placed his hand over her mouth and the startled 24-year-old victim screamed and ran away.
The man walked off in the opposite direction to the east side of Springvale Road, “ranting and raving”.
“There were no demands made, no threats made and no injuries,” Det Sen Const Meleisea said.
Nothing was stolen during the altercation.
The victim described the man as of Indian appearance and aged in his late thirties or forties with a medium build and black hair.
He was wearing a black zip-up jacket, black jeans and a backpack.
Det Sen Const Meleisea urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
