Volunteers trained

TWENTY-five Springvale volunteers will undergo practical training thanks to a major funding boost from the State Government.
Volunteer community organisations in the City of Greater Dandenong received $24,000 last week from a Volunteer Small Grant.
Through the new Volunteer Capacity Building project, the money will allow volunteers to undertake eight practical training sessions on areas such as running an annual general meeting, succession planning, organisational constitutions and the board as an employer and volunteer manager.
At the Springvale Learning and Activities Centre on Wednesday, 26 August, Community Development Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the State Government was supporting the growing community in Dandenong by investing in volunteering. “By providing volunteer organisation programs to improve their structure and governance we are ensuring they continue their good work for years to come,” she said.
“Building on the successful Community Strengthening and Participation project – to which the State Government contributed $175,000- local residents can now hone their skills and understanding of good governance practices for volunteer community organisations.
The project is partnership between the State Government, City of Greater Dandenong, Springvale Learning and Activities centre, Keysborough Learning Centre, Springvale Neighbourhood House and the Dandenong Community Advice Bureau.
The training will be provided by the Australian Institute of Community Practice and Governance is funding volunteer organisations in Greater Dandenong.
Ms D’Ambrosio encourage people and organisations interested in volunteering to visit the State Government volunteering portal at www.volunteer.vic.gov.au to find a range of information and resource to get them started.
