Lions’ offer cooks up fun and games

THERE’S a little more fun and games at the Dandenong Hospital Children’s Ward thanks to a big donation from the Dandenong Lions Club last week.
The club donated nine Toshiba Regazia 32-inch LCD televisions and an Xbox 360 to the hospital on 25 August.
Lions club member Lyn Pilois said the club raised thousands of dollars to buy the items from a series of fundraisers this year.
“The money used to fund these televisions was raised by our hard working barbecue team, who have raised in excess of $14,000 dollars since January this year,” she said.
“The barbecues were run by three full time workers Lion Dr Keerthi Gunawardana, Lion Dennis Frazer, Lion Gilbert Pilois and (Keerthi’s wife) Lion Lady Sue Gunawardana – and other Lions members who helped when they could give there time.”
Ms Pilois said she hoped the donation would provide the sick children with some much-needed entertainment and hoped it would benefit their visiting parents as well.
“One of the televisions has been put in the playroom, so hopefully parents can go in there and it helps them to relax and unwind,” she said.
Ms Pilois said it was not the first donation made to the children’s ward by the Lions club. In March 2008 the club presented an ultrasound, and earlier this year they donated two children’s cots.
