Son praises his special dad

FATHER’S Day was extra special for Steve Freeman this year.
Mr Freeman was crowned YMCA’s Community Father of the Year for the City of Greater Dandenong.
His eight-year-old son Blake, who attends Noble Park Special Development school, nominated him for Father of the Year by sending a story about him to the YMCA.
“I love my dad so much. I am disabled, I can’t talk and have special needs. My brother is 20 years old and has special needs too,” he wrote.
“My dad loves us for who we are and plays with us all the time. He takes us on holidays and I love wrestling so he wrestles with me.”
Blake said his father also cooks, reads stories and attends football games.
“We love our dad. He is the best,” he wrote.
“Even though I can’t talk I cuddle and kiss him lots.”
A spokesperson for the YMCA said the Dandenong area received 415 applications for the YMCA Father of the Year, all of which went up on display.
The Dandenong Oasis staff and YMCA mascot Philbert the Frog attended four local schools to present six runner-up awards during school assemblies.
