Mathe-magic effort

A LIGHTHOUSE Christian College student received the top honour in a maths competition testing the skills of students from across the state.
ABOUT 400,000 Australian students sat the competition, which is administered by the non-profit Australian Mathematics Trust.
Year 7 student Victor was awarded the prestigious Prudent Award, and said he was glad all his study before the exam paid off.
“Our teacher prepared us, but it was still a little nerve-racking. The last 10 questions were really hard,” he said.
“I feel pretty good now.”
Victor said he enjoyed maths, but preferred science and hoped to one day become a dentist.
His maths teacher Sunei Magel said he was proud of all 102 students from the school who took part in the competition.
“Everyone did well, Victor did fantastic. We had wonderful success,” he said.
“The competition is important to improve the students success and get them familiar with examinations and prepare them for their VCE. That’s the whole idea.”
Year 7 student Henry and Year 8 student Andrew were also awarded trophies for obtaining a score of 99 per cent, a high distinction rating.
