DANDENONG will host an Afghan wedding celebration as part of the 2011 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
The Afghan Spice Banquet will be held on Sunday 13 March and will feature food and entertainment traditional for a wedding celebration.
Two local Afghani restaurants, Afghan Pamir Restaurant and Salang, will be preparing the mouth-watering food for the event.
Afghan Pamir Restaurant owner Baryalai Rahimi said he was excited for the event and felt lucky to be involved.
“It will be like a real wedding and show off the City of Greater Dandenong as a multicultural city,” he said.
The Afghan community is rallying together to make the event as traditional as possible, he said.
Guests will also be entertained by world renowned sitar player Khalil as well as traditional Afghan dance groups.
The event will be held at the Dandenong market and it will be the first time the market is open to banquet guests and the public on a Sunday.
Guests are encouraged to visit the local stalls, where many Afghan ingredients are sourced.
The Afghan Spice Banquet will take place on 13 March from noon to 3.30pm at the Dandenong Market.
Tickets are $95 for the banquet and $125 including a return trip to Federation Square. To book, visit worldfood.net.au or call 9771 6666.
