GREATER Dandenong Council could be on the move.
The council has granted approval for the City of Greater Dandenong and VicUrban to enter into an agreement to investigate a new civic building on the corner of Walker and Lonsdale Streets, Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong mayor Roz Blades said it had been a long-standing goal to place the governance and administration functions of the council in one location.
“It has been more than 15 years since the formation of the City of Greater Dandenong following the council amalgamations and the time is right to move towards bringing the council’s administrations into one building,” Cr Blades said.
“Having one office would help the council achieve efficiency gains and improve service delivery for the community.”
The agreement also allows for the upgrade of community facilities like library service and meeting spaces.
“The Council building will be an excellent opportunity to contribute to creating a fresh new future for the area,” Cr Blades said.
“We will make sure any development complements the ‘Revitalising’ master plan to deliver the best outcome for the community.”
The agreement will allow the council to fully investigate the option of building on the site and gather councillor and community feedback but no final decision has been made.
