They remember

HUNDREDS of Greater Dandenong residents paid their respects at Anzac Day services organised by the Dandenong RSL on Monday.
The cool air and low fog did not deter the residents who flocked to the dawn service.
Many residents rugged up to pay tribute to their fallen soldiers during the traditional service, held at the Pillars of Freedom at 6am.
Led by Dandenong RSL Women’s Auxiliary president Judy Murdoch and Dandenong RSL member John Wells, the bugler’s sounds rang in the air as the service commenced with a minute’s silence.
Reverend Jeff Parker of St James Anglican Church led a hymn and Mr Wells recited Binyon’s Ode.
Wreaths were laid by RSL members, local MPs and community groups.
The piper, Ian Arrell, played Amazing Grace while service personnel and the public placed red poppies at the Cenotaph.
At 9am, the first Anzac Day memorial service for the Vietnam War was held at the Vietnam War Memorial of Victoria.
The march from the Dandenong RSL to the Pillars of Freedom commenced at 10.30am and was led by parade marshall Brian Hosie and the City of Greater Dandenong Band.
Navy and army cadets, friends and family, joined the veterans on the official march before a moving Anzac service at the Pillars of Freedom.
The service was led by Dandenong RSL Women’s Auxiliary president Judy Murdoch.
Guest speaker Commander Paul O’Grady spoke of those who have gone before us.
“Not only do we honour the men we lost, we honour those who have suffered,” Cmdr O’Grady said.
“May we never, never forget them.”
Prayer’s were led by Reverend Judy Foster and the Binyon’s Ode was recited by Dandenong High School students Andrew Le and Benazir Rasoli.
A lament was piped by Ian Arrell as the wreaths were laid.
Dandenong RSL thanked all those that took part in the service and all who attended.
