THREE Greater Dandenong primary schools went face to face with an artist for a council-funded art exhibition.
The Unity in Diversity exhibition features artwork by primary school students and explores issues of identity, cultural diversity and racial discrimination.
It is part of a three-year ‘Arts About Us’ project called Face to Face – The Story of Springvale.
The students, from St Joseph’s Primary School, Heatherhill Primary School and Spring Park Primary School, worked with artist-in-residence Sarah Catherine Firth.
Greater Dandenong mayor Roz Blades said students work reflected their own experiences.
“Students were asked to use comic drawing and story-telling skills to produce artwork which reflected their own experiences,” Cr Blades said.
“The project builds greater understanding, tolerance and acceptance within the community and provides the students with the opportunity to tell their own stories.
Unity in Diversity will be held from 22 September to 16 December at the Springvale Historical Society Community Gallery, 8 Hillcrest Grove, Springvale.
