Killed by motorbike

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy tragically lost his life on the weekend after being hit by a motorcycle in a residential street in Springvale.
Hayden Tingey was walking along Virginia Road with his brother at 5.25pm on Saturday when he darted in front of a group of motorcycles.
Sergeant Nigel Atkins said it was a tragic set of circumstances.
“The young boy was with his brother and darted in front of the motorcycles,” he said.
“He took the bikie group by surprise and one of the bikes clipped him.”
He died at the scene.
The family lives nearby and attended the scene, as did the other motorcyclists.
“It is extremely tragic circumstances and my heart goes out to the family,” Sgt Atkins said.
“His family attended the scene and to see your lifeless child’s body on the roadway – I can’t imagine.”
Sgt Atkins said it was a tragic accident and the motorcyclist, believed to be a Rebels bikie, was cleared of any wrongdoing.
“The solo rider, irrespective of what group he belongs to, was not at fault,” he said.
“That man has now got to contend with the fact he has taken the life of a nine-year-old child and shattered the family.”
Sgt Atkins said the bikies showed honour to the family and offered to raise money to assist them.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
