A POLITE conversation turned to violence when a young Doveton man was bashed after talking to a group of men on a Dandenong train.
Daniel Robinson, 24, got on a Dandenong-bound train at Clayton station just before 12.15am on Saturday 19 November, and struck up a conversation with a number of men described as being of Islander and African appearance.
Mr Robinson and the men all got off the train at Dandenong station and Mr Robinson was followed to the rear carpark where he was bashed unconscious by the men.
His backpack was also stolen in the attack. Detectives believe there may have been a number of witnesses to the assault, and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
