DANDENONG got the starts with the bat, but Casey-South Melbourne’s bowlers kept them from getting out of hand.
Dandenong posted 254 from 93 overs, with Brett Forsyth (54), Peter Sweeney (53) and Darren Dempsey (41) getting their eye in at Casey Fields. With Jayde Herrick and Matt Wade in the Casey team, winning the toss left an easy decision for the Panthers as they sent Casey-South Melbourne in to field.
Wade, who won’t play the second half of this match due to Australia duties, rolled his arm over to bowl four overs as he wasn’t allowed to keep. Nor was Jayde Herrick allowed to bowl more than 12 overs, so the workhorse of Casey, Clive Rose, was left to bowl 32 overs in scorching heat.
Rose claimed four crucial wickets, including Tom Donnell and Dempsey, to restrict the runflow for the Panthers.
Dempsey finds himself three short of 10,000 runs for Premier cricket and could be a couple of weeks away from scoring them if Casey bats all day this weekend.
