THE sounds of music will be heard at Heritage Hill this summer.
The Dandenong venue is hosting Sundays in the Sun this summer with a range of free events including live music, family friendly activities and entertainment, held in the gardens of the historic building.
Held on the second Sunday of the month between noon and 3pm, during the warm months, the events will provide a great opportunity to enjoy the surrounds of Heritage Hill, said Greater Dandenong Arts and Cultural Development co-ordinator Jamie Dawson.
“We are delighted to launch this brand new series for the people of Greater Dandenong,” she said.
“It is a chance to engage families of all ages and backgrounds in a relaxed and welcoming environment featuring great musical talent as well as local artists and entertainers.”
The first event will be held on 12 February and will feature music by Pailing Black, a local folk band, and Gwendolyne O’Dea, a well-known country and folk vocalist.
There will also be demonstrations by Australian chess champion Vineetha Wijesuriya, free art and craft workshops and the Springvale Stories exhibition by local secondary school students and artist Anu Patel.
On 11 March, gypsy trio Vardos will perform and the 22nd Australasian Guild of Town Criers Championship will be held.
Roving performers will also entertain among the gardens and photographer Graham Southam will display the Changing Face of Women exhibition.
The Jesse Mitchell trio will entertain on 8 April, using inspiration from pop, folk, soul, gospel and reggae styles.
Families can also enjoy free games, activities and Artspirations, an exhibition by an art access group.
Other events will be held on 14 October, 11 November and 9 December.
