WATER is flowing again through the Rotary Waterwheel in Dandenong Park.
The wheel, donated by the people of Dandenong on the Rotary Club of Dandenong’s 50th anniversary in 1986, has been out of action since water restrictions came into force.
The wheel was back in action after the Australia Day Ceremony in the park on Thursday.
Dandenong Rotary Club president Russell Smith said the wheel was a symbol of the community.
“The Waterwheel was the brainchild of past Rotarian Les Mills and constructed by fellow Rotarians at working bees and with much help from the City of Dandenong during the mid 1980s,” he said.
“The Rotary wheel symbol, reproduced in the Waterwheel, also parallels the industry focus of the Greater City of Dandenong, which has greatly increased since the initial installation of the Wheel in 1986.”
The recommission was also attended by the originator of the wheel, Les Mills, as well as present and past Rotarians
