DANDENONG’S Rosswood Tennis Club is giving people with disabilities a chance to lob, smash and serve their way to tennis glory with a recent upgrade to its facilities.
The club will celebrate the move to extend its community reach with an open day next week for people with disabilities.
Club spokeswoman Maria Tattersall said Rosswood recently welcomed its first wheelchair tennis player, Brian Eldridge, and expects to sign up more people.
“The club has worked with council to ensure that our facility is accessible, with disability ramps to the playing area installed and a disabled toilet, shower and change rooms available for everyone’s comfort,” she said.
Ms Tattersall said experienced tennis coach David Spierings would be running activities during the open day, along with tennis sessions.
“The day is open to people with disabilities of all ages and their families at Rosswood on 22 January from 11am to 3pm,” she said.
The club is located in Tirhatuan Park, Somerset Drive, Dandenong North.
“Dress in appropriate clothing and footwear, bring along a hat and come along to join in the fun,” Ms Tattersall said. Tennis equipment will be supplied.
