Old rhymes, new times

HERITAGE Hill will host a unique art exhibition that is breathing new life into old nursery rhymes.
Thirty artists were asked to choose a nursery rhyme, research its history, artistically interpret and adapt it for a contemporary audience.
The result is Nursery Rhymes – Alternative Views, running at the historical setting of Dandenong’s Heritage Hill until 17 August.
The exhibition was first held at The Highway Gallery in Mt Waverley and is designed to encourage a new audience interested in contemporary work without excluding those familiar with the old.
Works are of an identical size to create a cohesive look and produce an effect for the viewer akin to turning the pages of a book.
The public voted Diane Williamson’s work as the best overall during the exhibition at The Highway Gallery.
Other highlights were Beatrice Manoukian (best innovative work), and overall runners-up Merle Parker, Jan Anstis and Tiani Zia-Kane.
Entry is by gold coin donation. All artwork is available for purchase.
Heritage Hill is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from noon to 4pm in Langhorne Street, Dandenong.
