Fee fight rolls on

THE Liberal Party is continuing a campaign against parking fee charges that the State Government says do not exist, and never will.
Gary Anderton, Liberal Party candidate for Lyndhurst, this week maintained that the State Government had intentions of introducing a $2 parking fee at suburban railway stations such as Noble Park and Sandown.
His claim follows a series of denials from the State Government, including in July when the acting Transport Minister Bob Cameron said Liberal Party claims were rubbish.
“The Bracks Government has categorically ruled out charging people to use station car parks,” Mr Cameron said.
“Despite this, the Liberals continue to put out press releases telling commuters they are about to get slugged for car parking at stations. This is a lie.”
But Mr Anderton this week released his own statement claiming the Bracks Government was pressing ahead with parking fee plans.
“The Bracks Government has already let our public transport services slip, now it’s going to make it harder and more expensive to use the train each day,” he said.
