THE City of Greater Dandenong approved a planning application for the development of six new shops or offices in Springvale.
The shops will be built on a vacant block on Springvale Road, to the north of the railway crossing.
The doublestorey building will feature 14 spaces of roof top parking.
In his report to the council, the city’s manager of planning and design Jody Bosman said the location was appropriate given its main road frontage and proximity to the Springvale shopping precinct and railway station.
The applicant was exempted from providing additional car parking because of the location of the proposal.
Under normal council guidelines, a shop and office development of that scale would require 28 car spaces.
“The site is served by excellent public transport both buses and trains, and there is a substantial number of car spaces available both along Springvale Road and Virginia Street,” Mr Bosman wrote in the report.
The application was advertised and no objections were received.
