AN 83-YEAR-OLD Dandenong man was punched in the stomach while waiting for a haircut last week.
Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Senior Constable Dean Hayes said the man was waiting at 8.25am on Thursday, 12 October for the barber shop in the Hub Arcade to open.
Another man approached and tried to mug him for his ‘bum bag’, which was strapped around the 83-year-old’s waist.
The mugger was unable to remove the bag and punched the man in the stomach before trying once more to remove the bag, Det Sen Const Hayes said.
But he was again unsuccessful and fled.
The man was unable to provide a detailed description of his attacker to police.
The man is believed to be aged between 20 and 30.
Det Sen Const Hayes said police were hoping to hear from anyone who might have seen a man running from the Hub Arcade and into Lonsdale Street at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
