THE Dandenong Panthers continued to charge towards the Victorian Premier Cricket finals with a convincing win over Prahran at Toorak Park on Saturday.
After amassing 7/347 with the bat, Dandenong was without trump pace bowler Darren Pattinson, who was away on state duty, but still ripped through the Prahran batting order.
David Newman and Paul Boraston removed the Prahran openers without breaking a sweat, a fair effort given the temperature nudged 42 degrees during the day.
At 2/6 Prahran fought its way back into the match, adding 43 runs before Newman struck again, and again, taking the wickets of Liam Murphy and Brent Warren.
At 4/62 Prahran steadied with contributions from most of its middle order, but never challenged Dandenong’s total, the team all out for 233.
Newman surprised as Dandenong’s best bowler, snaring 5/50 in a spell sure to see him take the new ball again in the coming weeks.
Dandenong started its second innings, giving Matthew Chasemore (27 not out) and Tom Donnell (12 not out) a chance to hone their technique.
The Panthers now sit second on the ladder only two points behind top-of-the-table Essendon.
This weekend Dandenong travels to Ringwood for a two-day game scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
