OLYMPIC Gold medallist Herb Elliot was in Dandenong this week to congratulate staff at Chisholm Institute of TAFE for being part of a virtual globetrotting competition.
Chisholm Institute sponsored 287 staff in 41 teams of seven people for the 2007 Global Corporate Challenge.
Participants were each given a pedometer and their movements were measured between 24 May and 25 September.
To make the venture more exciting, their movements were charted on a globe.
In total, Chisholm staff teams walked 211,591 kilometres, meaning they virtually crossed over exotic locations in South American, Africa and China – all without missing a day of work.
But there could only be one winning team in the challenge, and that honour went to team Eat Our Dust.
Mr Elliott, chairman of the Global Corporate Challenge and gold medallist in the 1500 metre run at the 1960 Olympics, presented Eat Our Dust with the team’s award for winning the competition, and congratulated all of Chisholm’s participants at a ceremony at the TAFE college on Monday. He said Eat Our Dust walked an amazing 8420 kilometres and was ranked 118 nationally from more than 3336 Global Corporate Challenge team entrants.
