SPRINGVALE SOUTH teenager Samantha Sturgess kickedoff her school year, arriving by helicopter in front of friends and family.
The 13yearold Coomoora Secondary College student won a competition on Melbourne radio station Fox FM on Monday by detailing how bad her school holiday was after spending it with her grandma.
“I decided not to be bored,” Samantha said.
“So (my sister) and I cut nan’s hair and her whiskers, and put powder on her face.”
According to Fox FM Matt and Jo Show producer, Lisa Hind, Samantha’s story was ‘cute’.
“We basically called out for kids who had really bad holidays,” Ms Hind said.
“Samantha called in because she had to stay at her nanna’s the whole holidays, and when (her nanna) fell asleep on a hot day, she cut her nanna’s hair while asleep. It was really cute.”
The show judged Samantha its winner then organised with the Greater Dandenong council to arrange for permits to land the helicopter at Coomoora Reserve, Keysborough, the next day, before setting off to Coomoora Secondary College, across the road, at 8.30am.
Also aboard the helicopter was Samantha’s sister Christina and family friend, and required guardian for the flight, Mark.
The helicopter first went for a sightseeing flight before landing at the school.
