GREATER Dandenong residents can eat their way to a better world this month with a pancake day fundraiser to assist asylum seekers residing in the city.
The Trinity Uniting Church in Dandenong will host Pancake Day on 28 February, traditionally the day for the religious Shrove Tuesday celebration, with proceeds from the community cook-up going to the Asylum Seekers Centre, which operates out of the church.
Organiser Max Oldmeadow said the day was open to all residents, for just a $5 donation.
“Pancake Day will be a fun day, but more importantly it will highlight the increase in the number of Australians in need and encourage our community to share what they have with those doing it tough,” he said.
“Pancake Day raises funds to help UnitingCare support the homeless, abused, vulnerable children, the frail aged, families in crisis and people with disabilities.”
The Pancake Day will be made possible after a variety of sponsors, including Green’s Foods, donated 47,000 bottles of Pancake Shake to UnitingCare’s national fundraiser, along with 9000 bttles of maple syrup – the preferred pancake topping.
The Greater Dandenong celebration will be held at the Trinity Uniting Church, corner of Scott and Robinson Streets, Dandenong, on Tuesday, 28 February commencing at 6.30pm.
