NOBLE Park’s first XI has given itself a chance to notch up its first win for the season after dismissing Bayswater for 194 in Victorian Sub District Cricket Association play on Saturday.
After Bayswater won the toss and batted, Noble Park got the early ascendancy with Dean Edmunds picking up two wickets to have the visitors 2/27 after 10 overs.
A 30-run stand was then broken when Lance Baptist had Bayswater captain Oliver Wilhelm caught behind by Andrew Brown.
When Karl Brown picked up his first wicket for the club the score was 4/83, but Bayswater recovered to go into the break at 4/112 off 45 overs.
It was 5/118 soon after when Matt Crozier got through the defence of Daryl Stranger.
Sanj Weerasinghe then claimed the dangerous Connell for 84 to see the total to 6/154.
The visitors added a further 20 before Sean Schubert picked up two wickets, with Lance Baptist needing only two deliveries to end the visitors’ innings on 194.
Baptist finished with 3/18, Schubert 2/19 and coach Edmunds 2/38.
In reply, Noble Park suffered an early setback with Andrew Brown run out on the second-last ball of the day to have the side 1/15 at stumps.
The second XI stuck to its game plan to dismiss Bayswater for 229 after staring at a 250-plus total when the home side was 2/110 at tea.
Andrew Borovac was the best of the bowlers with 4/62 off 22 overs, while Stuart Patterson, coming up from the thirds, picked up 3/40.
