Perfect day spoils Panthers’ hopes

By Glen Atwell
A PERFECT day for batting spoiled the Dandenong Panthers’ chances of beating Carlton in their Victorian Premier League round seven clash at Princes Park on Saturday.
Carlton, chasing 302 for victory, cruised to 5/305 and took only 80 overs to reach the winning score.
Michael Allen (123 not out) opened the batting for the Blues and led the innings with distinction, his unbeaten tonne the highlight of the two-day match.
Tim Ludeman (66 not out) and Nathan Pilon (64) were also impressive with the willow.
Dandenong leg-spinner Nathan Allen (3/68), the younger brother of Carlton century-scorer Michael, caused some early problems for the Blues, who were in trouble at 5/175 early in the innings.
But an unbroken 130-run sixth wicket stand between Michael Allen and Ludeman steered Carlton to victory.
Dandenong returns to Shepley Oval on Saturday to commence a tough two-day match against Melbourne.
