THE CASTLE in Dandenong fortified the community’s faith in local youth, sport and dance entertainment after hosting the Phaze event last Saturday.
Organised by Multi Nation Crew, a project under the auspice of the City of Greater Dandenong’s Youth Services Team, the day ran from mid-afternoon until late at night.
Phaze featured a stack of activities in an attempt to encourage young people to socialise in a safe environment with their peers from across the city.
Afternoon activities included free soccer matches, a free barbecue by the Lions Club and plenty of giveaways.
A free legal graffiti art demonstration took place in the afternoon, with help from the council’s graffiti management project and local artists.
Other afternoon highlights included competitions for free limousine rides.
Night time entertainment for people aged between 13 and 17 took place inside The Castle.
The line-up of acts included reggae artists, a Krumping dance demonstration and battle, DJ Kid Byonik mixing up RNB and hip hop tunes, techno and house DJs, Mass Mayhem breakdancers, performers from An Octave Above singing school, and a mixture of other dance crews.
Wickid Force Breakdancing Crew made its Dandenong debut at The Castle.
The crew is known for fusing dance styles with their innovative and dynamic breaking skills.
They have performed and competed thoughout Australia and overseas, including the International Battle of The Year competition in 2002 and 2003 in Germany. They were the National Breaking Champions from 2003 to 2005 and were guests on Rove Live earlier this year.
