NOBLE PARK students raised money for families struggling with the cost of sending children to school by walking to the MCG last month.
Noble Park Primary School students raised money for the State Schools’ Relief Committee last month by walking from Flinders Street to the MCG.
Grade three and four teacher Kirsty Calderone said for many of the students, it was also the first time they had caught a train.
“Some of the students haven’t been in Australia that long, so they hadn’t been on a train,” she said.
Once the students reached Melbourne, Ms Calderone and her colleagues took them on a route that passed by the Yarra River, and had great views of the city skyline.
The group stopped by a photographic exhibit showcasing pictures of earth from the sky.
Once at the MCG, the students joined 500 other students in a ceremony to celebrate the Walk to the G Day.
“We went to the Olympic stand and got to watch some of the Pura Cup cricket, and then were presented with certificates for participating and raising money,” Ms Calderone said.
“After that, each student received a free bottle of water, and we walked to Richmond train station and caught the train home.”
The train trip was also part of the school’s Travel On program, and Connex staff were on hand to answer students’ questions about public transport during the train trip to and from school.
